Doyin AriyibiHi all! My name is Doyin Ariyibi and I am an Economics and Black Studies double major. I moved to the United States when I was a child and grew up in Auburn, AL, then later moved on to Baltimore, MD during high school. Being an immigrant came with the certain stereotypical aggressive approach towards education. I had the mentality that if one continues to word hard, then you would be rewarded for your work accordingly. Upon entering Amherst, had this same philosophy until I realized that because inadequate preparation, culturally, educationally, and socially, I was at a great disadvantage that couldn’t be glanced over when taking STEM classes. Although I have left the STEM world due to these disadvantages I am eager to collaborate with fellow students who are eager and willing to find ways to bridge the academic gap for underprivileged students. I am excited to work with my peers with an array of knowledge and backgrounds in the pursuit of making the inequalities and ways of addressing them clear and available. Through modes such as testimonials from students, faculty, staff, and alumni in STEM/STEM related paths, we aim to analyze the performance and efficiency of resources offered at Amherst and the general STEM experience. Using this information, I hope to create a comprehensive report including the findings that we have attained.

My Projects |
This semester, I have contributed to the "Outreach and Resource Coordination" project. Our goal is to look at Amherst's institutional past and present in order to create sustainable program models and curriculum addendums at the College that will produce quantifiable improvements in the experiences of underprivileged students pursuing STEM/STEM-related fields.
